Who doesn’t love spring break? Whether you are playing the sport you love, tanning on the beach, enjoying beautiful destinations, choosing where you might spend the next four years, or simply doing what you love in Ohio, spring break is one of student’s favorite time to rest, decompress, and take a much deserved break from school.
This week the Ravine interviewed Kilbourne students about their spring break plans and experiences to help you have the best spring break experience possible.
Beach Vacations

Perhaps the most common spring break plan is to get away to a beach, enjoy the water and achieve the perfect tan. Junior Claire Renneker is traveling to Hawaii this spring break for exactly this purpose. Hawaii is best known for it’s warm temperature, beautiful beaches, and breath-taking natural wonders. Claire told us, “I’m most excited for the warm weather, clear ocean, and getting tan”, which reflects the attitude of most kids going on a beach vacation.
As a spring break beach frequenter, we also asked claire what she was bringing, and she said she’s “bringing lots of swim suits and cute dresses.”
This is the perfect dress code for a beach vacation: swimsuit for swim and tanning by day; and pretty dresses for dinner, and cute pictures, by night.
If you are planning a to be at the beach this spring break, make sure to pack your swimsuits, dresses, sunscreen and a good book; and enjoy the sun!
Sports Trips
Many athletes will be spending this break working hard on and off the field. Although I have no plans except lounging with some sun and a good book, I can admire their dedication!
Kilbourne’s varsity baseball team will be taking their annual trip to Myrtle Beach for a week of team bonding and baseball games galore. Senior Colby Beck told us that he’s excited for “[making] fun memories with my teammates and also our Brazilian steakhouse dinner one of the nights!”

Spending time with the team and time improving your skills is a great way to spend spring break, and the baseball team is sure to see great results from this time dedicating to each other.
We wish them fun times and safe travels!
Cold Weather Escapades
Most often, spring break is associated with warm weather and sun, but for Junior Elizabeth Bennett, that’s not the case this year. She and her mom and sister will be visiting Switzerland for spring break this year!
She told us a little about preparing for a cold trip like this, saying, “I’m only bringing one carry on and a backpack so definitely have to pack light. I’m bringing mostly winter clothes because it will be mid 40s for most of the time.”
While it may seem silly to leave Ohio for somewhere cold, many people forget about the beauty that lies outside of the temperature. Elizabeth is “staying in the mountains so if it’s not too cloudy I can hopefully have some really pretty views”, which will make for an unforgettable spring break and an opportunity to create some beautiful memories!

College Trips
Because Junior year is so crucial for college, many kids don’t get enough free time to go visit colleges, making spring break the perfect opportunity to get some college visits and experiences in!
We interviewed Junior Izzy Recard who is going around New York’s colleges for spring break, including Rochester, Syracuse and Cornell.
She is “most excited to see [her] friend Libby at Cornell and hopefully get inspired to go to one [of the schools].”
Using spring break to get a taste of possible futures is a great idea, and who doesn’t love New York!

Staycations
Last but certainly not least, we have staycations! Spring break is not always about going somewhere, often its about what you do to make it special when you stay home! Freshman Claire Hertz was going to go on vacation, but her plan fell through, so now she will be making the most of it at home!
She says, “I’m most excited to hangout with my friends and to relax, I’m making the staycation fun by keeping myself entertained!”
If you are staying home this spring break, there’s no reason you can’t have an awesome time! Grab some friends and make the most of it, you have a whole week!
Overall, spring break is one of the best weeks of the year. As Izzy Recard put it, “Its great to just have a little break right before the last “leg” of school”, which is exactly right. No matter your spring break plans, spend it doing something that will fill you up and give you what you need to make it through the rest of the year!
Have a fun and safe break Kilbourne!
