The upcoming school year at Worthington Kilbourne high school has been very new to a lot of students, due to the construction and newer teachers or administrators. There was one administrators that caught everyone’s curiosity and her name is Mrs. Leiding. As we interviewed Mrs. Leiding, we found out how she found Kilbourne, what she thinks of the people, and the building. Some of the questions we asked included how she found Kilbourne high school? She answered with a interesting story about how she switched from teaching to being a administrator. As she was looking for a teaching job at a new school, she found McCord middle school. She applied to become a teacher, but there were no positions for a new teacher at McCord. Then she got an email from Mr. Thomas asking if she wanted to come and become an administrator at Kilbourne.
She said her expectations or goals are that she wants to get to know everyone and be able to get the hang of the building and her new position. As for the expectation of Kilbourne, we meet the criteria. The welcoming is what she liked the most and how she is being treated as an equal by all of her coworkers.
As for her teaching experiences, she said that she has been in the teaching industry for 18 years, but this is her first year as a administrator. In her old schools, she used to teach French 1,2,3 and for a while, French 4. She had started teaching in Bellview schools. They are a little town with a little school she had worked at. She had taught junior high, then high school. She then switched to Brookhaven high school, then Mifflin high school, where she was for 10 years before she ended up with us.
For her thought on the construction, she thinks it will look very nice and that she is used to the construction since it is her first year here. She also said her old school also had construction so it doesn’t bother her as much. She had said that her settings are different because our school is about double the size, and is very quiet, and there is a culture of expectations of maturity and respect. Her hometown is in Ohio. She’s from Zanesville, Ohio then she lived in northern Ohio, then came back to Columbus.
As for her inspiration for being a teacher, no one in her family is in the industry. She said her mom is now at Ohio State University, but when she was little no one in her family was working for any schools.
The after school activities she involves herself with are Friday night football because when she was in high school she did cheer for football and basketball. She also did gymnastics, and then was on a dance team. Some other questions we asked her were her favorite things to do, which is to go see stand up comedians. In terms of her favorite movie or shows, she said her favorite shows are reality shows.
Mrs. Leiding is a very energetic person and just the right person to bring more light into our school.
