This week, The Ravine highlights freshman Audra Bailey for her outstanding athletic achievements so far in this 2024-2025 school year. Bailey is a starter on the Varsity Women’s Volleyball team this year and shares with us a little bit about her experiences and expectations for this season.
Bailey tells how she “started playing volleyball around 3rd grade” on a “rec team coached by [her] mom.” She then continued to “play rec for 2 years” before joining her “first club team at Mintonette.” Bailey has played for various different clubs and is entering her 5th year as a club volleyball player.
The Ravine asks Bailey about her athletic accomplishments and she shares her pride in “making 16 black this year at Elite.” She touches on how it’s her “second year playing there and to earn a spot on the highest team means a lot.” Bailey’s goal for this season is to “improve [her] position and build confidence on the court” while also bonding as a team and “winning districts and doing good in their conference.”
With Bailey entering her first year of high school, The Ravine was curious to see how she has handled the new environment. She shares that “switching from middle school volleyball to high school volleyball [was] a big change” but it’s comforting to “see a lot of familiar faces.” Bailey says she is “excited to use this school season as an opportunity to get prepared for club volleyball” and improve to become “the best [she] can.”
Bailey plays among mostly upperclassmen and says “it’s a great opportunity to watch older players that are more skilled” and “improve as an athlete” herself. Though it can be intimidating, Bailey expresses that “as long as [she is] doing what [she] knows and playing [her] best, that’s all that matters.”
Bailey tells The Ravine how she has “always loved the sport” and how “it’s always something [she] can look forward to.” She shares that “volleyball has helped [her] strengthen teamwork, communication skills, and building strength and agility.” Bailey says it “provides a sense of community and belonging” and she feels as though “all the hours an athlete must spend in the gym and the dedication that’s needed really prepares [her] for [her] future in volleyball.”
Make sure to get out and support Audra Bailey and the entire Women’s Volleyball team this season. We wish them luck in their upcoming games and hope to see our girls on the court playing the game they love. Go Wolves!
