Brandon Fisher is a perfect example of an exemplary student with his dedication to photography, wrestling, and his school work.
Fisher started taking photos when he was six with a little point-and-shoot camera. He then took photography sophomore year to expand his knowledge leading to his photos improving. “I started to do the same thing I did with my old camera, trying to find a cool angle and shot. This time though it was different because the photos didn’t look bad, they looked somewhat decent” says Fisher. He was inspired to continue his path with photography because of a photo he took of a sunset with a sailboat, zooming in you can see a couple holding hands and staring into the sunset. “It wasn’t the greatest but the meaning behind the photo was truly a defining moment…when I found it in the photo I was completely sold on the idea” Fisher shares. He takes photos of many events such as sports, senior portraits, charity events, birthday parties, and public speaking events.
Photography isn’t the only thing Fisher excels at, he also has been wrestling since his sophomore year. He started by going to an open mat with his friend Joe who had been wrestling for quite some time and enjoyed it so much that he decided to join the team.
“I went to the open mat and never looked back” Fisher adds. While he has some regrets about not starting wrestling sooner for fear of falling behind, he decided the only thing to do was look to the future. Fisher has been wrestling all year round since then, “I
joined a wrestling club called Pursuit and wrestled as well as lifted with my coach Andrew Higgins every day during summer”. Not only did Pursuit help him with wrestling but also with photography, they had noticed his photos and asked to take photos of practices and events leading him to get an internship. He was even lucky enough to have a photoshoot with three-time NCAA wrestling champ Alec Dieringer and photograph him wrestling.
Fisher offers some advice on how to balance school work and extracurriculars, “The way I balance school, photography, and wrestling is finding a sweet spot of where I can focus on all three…I tend to blend them together such as taking photos at a wrestling event”. He also goes to DACC full day for digital design making his school work blend with his photography and getting to improve his skills full-time.
An admiral part of Fisher is his strong philosophies and always taking advice to heart. I bring forward a piece of advice Fishers’ coach shared with him, “Practice makes permanent”, something you can see in his photos, wrestling, and as a person.
