It is now that time of year, time for pumpkins, time for candy, time for tricks, and most importantly, time for scares. Whether you enjoy being scared or not, everyone can enjoy a good haunted house with their friends to get the adrenaline rushing throughout their bodies.
All throughout Ohio there are many good spots where you can get a good scare. Some are far and some are right here in Columbus.
Fear Columbus
Fear Columbus is located at 2605 Northland Plaza Dr in Columbus. They describe themselves as the “Largest and Scariest haunted house in Columbus.”
They are open starting only Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays and will be open one more day a week until the week of Halloween where they will be open all 7 days of the week.
This year they offer three unique attractions: Oddballs: Feast of Freaks, a clown/carnival themed attraction, Dearly Departed, a funeral and dark magic themed house, and Fright Fest at Fearwood High, and high school haunted house themed attraction.
One of these three different attractions is bound to grab your attention and scare you into having a good time.
WKHS Junior Bowen Rick went to Fear Columbus last year and said that “the scariness for me was a 5 because I don’t really get scared at haunted houses but when the jump scares got me a few times it was a little scarier.”
A 5/10 is scary enough to give you a good time but make it so you can sleep at night after you get home.
A relatively cheap option with tickets starting at $19.99 it is a great place to bring your friends to give you a good scare.
Halloweekends
Beloved amusement park Cedar Point also gets in on the scare action. Every Thursday-Saturday night, the park is transformed into your worst nightmare.
With “scare zones” all around the park, you are never really safe from all the actors who are dressed up and walking around the park with only one goal in mind: to scare you.
Along with the scare zones, there are also different attractions around the park. From haunted corn maze’s to just simply walking through a basic haunted house, there are countless things to choose from to give you a scare.
Tickets are a little pricier however; with single-day tickets starting at $49.99. You definitely get your money’s worth though, because you can have a full day at Cedar Point riding all the rides, then have the scares of a lifetime in the cold October night.
If scaring is not your thing, you can purchase a “no boo necklace” for $15.99. With these necklaces, in the scare zones the monsters won’t come up to you; however, if you enter into the haunted attractions they won’t protect you from the scares that await.
Halloweekends will be open through the first weekend in November, so if you have the time, make the trip up to Cedar Point this month.
Blood Prison
Inside of the walls of the The Ohio State Reformatory, this place is not for the faint of heart. As you walk through the old prison, you are constantly being jumped out at by creatures and inmates and guards beyond the grave.
Located at 100 Reformatory Rd, in Mansfield, Blood Prison is set at the same location as the movie The Shawshank Redemption. Blood Prison is a great place to come if you love classic movies and a good scare.
The attraction lasts from 45-60 minutes depending on how fast you go throughout the prison and will take you throughout different parts of the historic reformatory.
At one point in your stay, you make your way into the morgue, keeping in mind that the location was an actual prison where people stayed. It’s been said that you can still hear the screams of the prisoners who once served out their sentence in those very cells. If that doesn’t send chills down your spin, I don’t know what will.
General admission tickets start at $35.99, but Blood Prison also allows you to purchase a “touching” ticket, which allows for all the actors within the prison to touch you and pull you away from your group.
With Halloweekends at Cedar Point being the most tame option, to Blood Prison guaranteed to have you screaming and looking over your shoulder for the next week, if you are looking for a good haunted attraction to go to during this Halloween season, you certainly can’t go wrong with any of these options.
