This week the Ravine is excited to feature Charlotte Routh as Wolf of the Week. Charlotte is a junior middle blocker on the Varsity Women’s Volleyball team and she recently committed to play D1 Volleyball for Lipscomb University after High School! She has been involved in volleyball for 7 years but it was only recently, about a year ago, that she decided to play in college.
She told us, “Ultimately it just came down to my love for the sport and the relationships I’ve built around it and I could not imagine myself not playing after high school.”
Committing can be a tedious process for athletes, you are not only choosing the place where you will further your sports commitment but also where you will be attending college and furthering your academic journey. Charlotte gave some pointers on what to focus on when committing.
Her advice was to make a commitment, “mostly based on location, athletic success, scholarships, and academics. It just comes down to finding the school for you.”
It’s easy to read these criteria and try to apply them, but what you really want when choosing a college is a feeling, Charlotte told us. She elaborated on the feeling she got, saying, “When I visited Lipscomb for the first time after getting to know the coaches and learning about the school’s culture, I learned that it would be a perfect fit.”
Charlotte is a talented athlete, but she also balances other aspects of her life outside of volleyball, such as school and friends. She loves to be with her friends any chance she gets.
Charlotte plans to continue her education in the field of physical therapy and sports medicine at Lipscomb. She also hopes that an opportunity will arise for her to coach one day once she is older because ultimately, she just loves to be around the sport.
She left us with two pieces of advice that are helpful not just for those going through the recruiting process, but also for those who are trying to decide on any aspect of their future.
The first is, “Do some soul searching and figure out what you want and what you are looking for before starting the recruiting process, that way you can find a good fit for you as an athlete and a student.”
Lastly, Charlotte says, “If you are going through the recruiting process or thinking about it, try to enjoy it because not a lot of people get the opportunity and it will be over very fast so while yes it’s stressful try to stay grateful and enjoy it while it lasts!”
Kilbourne is happy to have Charlotte on the volleyball team for the rest of this season and the next, and they are excited to see the great things she will do at Lioscomb and beyond.
Have a great week Wolves!
