As we enter the final months of the school year, our Worthington Kilbourne High School spring athletes are gearing up for their season. From boys and girls lacrosse, to track & field, the Wolves are putting their best foot forward to make this their best season yet! But what really goes into the preparation process? Let’s take a closer look with some of our WKHS athletes.
Girls Lacrosse
The Girls Lacrosse program at WKHS has been putting in the work this preseason with, “open fields and after school strength & conditioning practices” senior Bella White shared with The Ravine. Lacrosse, “can be very complex,” White explained, and “it is very important to work on individual skills on your own time.” It’s always a good idea to work on bettering yourself and continue to put in the effort to become a better team all together. The team recently held tryouts for the upcoming season on Monday, February 17th where they did, “lots of stick work, passing, and footwork.” White expressed how tryouts are a great way to get the, “younger and newer players a feel of how the game is played” at a higher and more serious level. The girls have their first official game on March 21st at home against Dublin Coffman. Make sure to get out and support our Girls Lacrosse Team and cheer them on as they enter their 2025 season!

Track & Field
The WKHS Track & Field Team is another spring sport that is currently gearing up for their season. Senior Gavin Wang spoke with The Ravine about what goes into the preseason process for Track & Field. Wang shared that a lot of athletes prepare for the season, “through indoor track” in which, “[athletes] practice about 3 times a week” alongside their, “event coaches to become better at [their] event.” Not only does indoor track include practices, but also, “weekend meets.” Wang included how, “indoor track is optional” and the whole team doesn’t come together until the first day of outdoor track, which was February 24th. Unlike other sports at WKHS, Track & Field has, “no tryouts” and, “anyone can show up” on the first day of practice and, “they’ll be on the team.” All athletes can compete in the smaller weekday meets; however, the team will use each individual’s, “practice efforts and results” to determine who will compete in the larger invitational meets. We wish the Track & Field Team the best of luck this season!
Softball
Our WKHS Softball Wolves have begun their season preparations as well, and held their tryouts last month on February 17th and 18th. Senior athlete Becca Boue shared that the team has been spending, “a lot of time together both on and off the field.” The team has, “been focusing more on fixing and maintaining the smaller aspects of the game, such as catching with two hands and improving their reaction time.” Boue shared with The Ravine that in order to get better at a sport, “the most important thing is to stick with it” and “do something everyday.” “Whether it be throwing, hitting, agility work, or learning plays,” giving 100% everyday is crucial to improving your skill. We are excited to see our WKHS softball athletes show off all of their hard work this season, go support!
Boys Volleyball
Like the other sports, Boys Volleyball has spent a lot of time in the past few months conditioning and training for their upcoming season. Senior volleyball player Alex Ishida shared how him and his team, “have been participating in team lifting and open gyms throughout the winter.” Ishida added that many of his teammates, “play for club volleyball teams around Columbus” which help the players, “hone their skills for the season.” Tryouts were February 24th and 25th where the team spent a lot of time, “focusing on agility, ball control, and skills/volleyball IQ.” The team has their first game on March 14th at Pickerington North High School so make sure to get out and support our volleyball Wolves!

Our WKHS spring athletics and athletic department as a whole have continued to showcase their commitment and dedication to improvement and have played a key role in bringing students together. We are so excited to see our spring athletes compete and show off the hard work they’ve been putting in! Go Wolves!
