This week, The Ravine is excited to feature sophomore Erkan Erciyas as Wolf Of The Week!

Erkan Erciyas is a name you have probably heard from your friends or in the hallways over the past few weeks. His shocking 45-yard field goal during the Kilbourne vs. Scioto football game caused a lot of attention and caught the eye of many of our students and staff. Ericyas’ kick was a major victory for his team as it secured WKHS the win over scioto in The Battle Of Hard Road, 17-14. But, a football isn’t the only thing he can kick, Ericyas is also a part of the Varsity WKHS Boys Soccer team. He plays striker and has found passion and success on the soccer field just as well as he has on the football field. Ericyas’ academic and athletic obligations have surely kept him busy, yet The Ravine is excited to have gotten the chance to find time and sit down with him to learn more about his involvement in WKHS.

Being a multi-sport athlete certainly has its challenges, but being a multi-sport athlete within the same season is a whole other level. Ericyas experiences some of these challenges as he is required to balance both football and soccer. Luckily for Ericyas, when it comes to games, he never has “to choose between soccer and football because soccer doesn’t have games on Fridays.” For practices, though still doable, look a little bit different. “I only have to go to football practice for about 15 minutes,” Ericyas explains, “and after that I go straight to soccer, only really missing warm ups.” He further tells how “playing two sports in the same season [has it’s obstacles], but if you really want to, you just need to balance your time well and not push yourself too hard.”

In the end, it all comes back to that big moment, right after completing the 45-yard field goal when Ericyas “felt [that] rush of pure adrenaline.” Getting an opportunity like that to prove your talent and show off your hard work is one that many student athletes hope to achieve. The WKHS soccer and football teams are so proud to see Ericyas succeed and can’t wait to see what the next few seasons of his high school career have in store for him.
The Ravine wishes Ericyas the best of luck on his athletic and academic endeavors and are looking forward to seeing him continue to grow as an athlete and as a student here at WKHS!
