At WKHS, we are going to be focusing on the Black Student Association club, also known as BSA. This club is full of diversity and community. They have a bunch of amazing people that you can learn from and learn about their community and traditions. BSA is always full of energy and support.
We interviewed Fatima Daimito to talk about her experience with BSA. The Black Student Association Club had a president, a vice president, and a secretary, also known as Fatima Daimito for president, Aminata Bundu for vice president, and finally Malea Givens, and by next year they will have a new president since Fatima Daimito is a senior and will be graduating.
BSA is a very new club due to its new founding into this school. They have done a lot of collaborations with other clubs, such as diversity clubs and interactive clubs, so they will be well known and so they can help other clubs promote themselves. What’s different from last year in BSA is that they have more freshmen joining and more and more of the community coming in to join this club and feel welcomed into our school.
This club has activities occasionally, but they also teach their members about black history. They also discuss what it’s like to be in a school that’s predominantly white, talking about situations that have happened to them and how they can work through those problems, making this club a safe place to talk about things.
Some activities they do in BSA are family feuds, movie nights, and other activities that can go on throughout the school year instead of being just during Black History Month. This club is a very welcoming and family-built community, and they are always open to ideas to share what traditions people do and what activities they would like to do to teach others about their experiences.
