Ama Ampem

The Ravine is excited to feature senior Ama Ampem for the final feature of the 2025-2026 school year. Ampem is a photographer and student here at WKHS with a rising popularity. She is also involved in The Ravine as the official photographer. The Ravine spoke with Ampem about her photography journey and her involvement in our journalism program.

Ampem has been doing photography seriously since last summer and shared that it “has always been something [she has] been interested in and it’s always been a hobby” of hers. Ampem eventually joined The Ravine to try and “expand her opportunities instead of just being a sports and lifestyle photographer.”

The Ravine asked Ampem what the booking and shooting process looks like for her and her clients. “Most of my clients reach out to me via Instagram or iMessages and ask me for my rates. After I send them over, they pick whether they want to do a studio shoot or an outdoor shoot, and after that I create a mood board for their shoot” Ampem shared. On the day of shooting, Ampem said, “I personally like to get to the studio like 10 minutes early so that I can ensure I have everything together and I can prepare myself for what I need to do that day. Then after the shoot, I have them pick out the photos they like and then I edit them. My editing takes about 3 to 7 days just depending on what style the client wants.”

Ampem’s goal for photography is to “learn something new every time [she] picks up the camera and become more photographically intelligent.” She told The Ravine that “with research and communication, [she] can figure out how to use new styles while also putting [her] own twist on it.”

Finally, The Ravine asked Ampem what she believes sets her apart from other photographers. “I would say my ability to keep things natural and true to tone sets me apart from other photographers. Everyone has their own style and their own editing process, but I would say for me, I love to keep things natural.” Ampem further commented, “I don’t like to do like anything too dramatic to my photos when I do lifestyle shoots or studio shoots. I am not trying to make you look completely different from yourself or give a vibe that is not true to who you are. I try to capture the essence of who that person is and I try to keep in the details that make them unique.”
