The day began,
Wonder of what was to come filled the air.
Anna, mom, and dad set off,
Auntie and Grand-mo filling their space.
A trip to the quarter horse congress set in place.
Joy,
The phone rang,
One,
Two,
Three times.
Eagerly answering the phone my dad said,
We have a surprise for you when we get home.
A smile crept across my face as I wondered what that surprise was.
Tires rolled onto the driveway,
The sight of a car pulling in containing my family.
My mom stepped out of the car,
Autumn booming around her,
Time in slow motion.
Joy emanated through me as the realization hit.
A dalmatian puppy had been brought home just for me.
Together we sat in the grass,
Leaves falling around us,
The outdoors springing to life at this new precious life in our house.
His spots covered him in blob-like little patches,
His ears flopped,
His nose ran,
His eyes hang shut.
He was perfect.
A fort was built,
Carefully constructed piece by piece to match the perfectness of my dog,
And his name,
His name was Lucky,
And I was the luckiest child alive.
Looking back on that moment there was,
Joy,
A smile,
Wonder.
