Grammys 2024: In Review

Every year, the Grammys are the biggest award show for the music industry. From the looks on the red carpet to the performances, the entire night is a production, this year was no different. Stars from Zach Bryan to Taylor Swift attended the show, read on to see a highlight of this year’s nominees and winners.

Miley Cyrus

Winning her first Grammy ever, Miley had a spectacular night. Her performance was super engaging as she ad-libbed phrases such as “I just won my first Grammy!”. Prior to her performance, she named some of her biggest inspirations in the music industry, including Tina Turner who she replicated the style of in her performance through erratic dances and moves, even throwing her microphone stand at the end. While the vocal performance was amazing, the excitement radiating off of her really made watching her Grammys night special.

Billie Eilish/Finneas

Billie Eilish and her brother, producer, and co-songwriter Finneas have been Grammys royalty ever since 2020 when they won 5 nominations in one night. Now, they have a combined total of over 9 wins and 25 nominations. This year was no different, they received the Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “What Was I made for [from the Barbie soundtrack]” Her performance of the song was beautiful and simplistic, with her and Finneas sitting at a piano while she wore a recreation of the 1960s Barbie doll. The performance was completely moving and acted as a beautiful way for her to wrap up her Barbie “Era” as well, honoring the movie and womanhood as a whole with her win.

Taylor Swift

Taylor had an amazing night, winning for album of the year, officially surpassing Frank Sinatra, and becoming the artist with the most total wins in the category, ever. In her distinctive Swift style, she took the stage, dragging friends featured on the album such as Jack Antonoff and Lana Del Rey on stage, and promptly announced that her brand-new album The Tortured Poets Department will be released on April 19th. While she did not perform this year, she did rock the red carpet with a stunning long white gown.

 SZA

SZA was nominated for 9 categories spanning from R&B, rap, pop, and overall categories as well. She wore many outfits for her performance, red carpet walk, and acceptance speech, including a trench coat for when she performed “Snooze” and “Kill Bill”. SZA took 5 years in between her last album and SOS, but it is clear her attention and care to crafting her songs pays off, she won 3 Grammys this year including the best R&B song.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia walked the red carpet in a stunning vintage Versace gown. It was white with pearly embellishments and contrasted her previous taste. The outfit undoubtedly enhanced her maturity and growth as she has become a common name in the music industry in the past few years. Her performance of her song “Vampire” off of her 2023 album “Guts” was remarkable, highlighting her vocal growth and growing confidence with live performances.

Noah Kahan

Noah Kahan is one distinct artist of this past year. With his new album (album name) and hit songs such as “Stick Season” and “Dial Drunk (ft Post Malone)” he has taken the world by storm. He showed up to the Grammys in a pretty normal outfit but brought his mom along as a date. Unfortunately, he didn’t win his only nomination in the category of Best New Artist, but Victoria Monet won the award instead. While he didn’t win this year, his talent and rapidly growing fan base will continue to make an impact in the future.

Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams is an artist on the rise. This year has aided in jumpstarting her career as she opened for Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour and had songs such as “I Miss You, I’m Sorry” go viral on TikTok. She holds the “Nepo” Baby title, as she is the daughter of famous Hollywood director J.J. Abrams, who created movies such as Star Wars. She was also only nominated for the Best New Artist category and did not take home the win.

Lana Del Rey

Lana has been a staple in the industry for years. With her unique aesthetic and music style, many find her as a distinct voice of alternative music. She rocked the red carpet with a black, funeral attire dress. Many fans believed that this could be reflecting her next era of music as well. She was nominated for 6 awards this year for music featured in her newest album “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard”, but unfortunately did not win any. Throughout her career, she has 11 total nominations, but never won any of the categories.

Zach Bryan

Bryan was up for 4 nominations this year for his self-titled album and song “I Remember Everything” Ft. Kacey Musgraves. He had no performances but did walk the red carpet with his girlfriend in a classic suit. He won the best country duo, and it was clear he had a great time as the next day he put a post of gratitude on his Instagram story saying, “Don’t need anyone telling me who the winner is with you guys in my life, thank you for one of the funniest nights I’ll ever remember”
